Hope is not a guarantee. It’s a possibility worth making room for.
I’ve been thinking about something since last week’s newsletter, Keeping the Hearth: Magic for Troubling Times. Several readers wrote to tell me how much the article meant to them, and some shared it with friends and family. I was touched by those responses, but they also confirmed something I’ve been noticing for a while now. People are tired. They’re worried about their families, their finances, their health, their futures, and the increasingly impressive collection of disasters competing for their attention.
And underneath all of that, I think a great many people are asking a question they may not even realize they’re asking.
Is something good still allowed to happen? Because that sure does seem to be a rare occurrence lately. Can we still be happy and have a good life despite all that is happening in the world?
