Update – 2 Weeks on Mila

April 24, 2009 Mila, weight loss | Comments (17) Katrina @ 8:15 am

Hello Everyone!

Today completes my second week of taking Mila seeds.  My weight loss has stabilized to around a half pound every day to 2 days, but it has been steady.  The only time it slowed to less than that was last weekend when I stopped taking them because I wanted to enjoy eating.  I have lost a total of 8 pounds during that 2 weeks, but I had also gained a bit of my lost weight back before I started taking the seeds, so some of that was just making up for backsliding.

Ha – Progressing Even When I Don’t Intend To

April 20, 2009 Mila, weight loss | Comments (17) Katrina @ 10:35 am

I decided this weekend to avail myself of one of the benefits the Mila seed has over gastric bypass which is that you can stop taking it and not have the hunger suppressed (or so I thought).

Baggy Clothes!

April 17, 2009 Mila, weight loss | Comments (2) Katrina @ 8:59 am

My “next size down” jeans are baggy now.  I pulled them on today out of the dryer and even though they are the elastic waist stretch jeans, they didn’t even have to stretch once they were on.  In fact, I imagine they are going to grow on me through the day to the point that I will change into something else.

This Is So Effortless

April 16, 2009 Mila, weight loss | Comments (7) Katrina @ 7:38 am

I have been struggling with my weight since I was around 15.  Actually, I remember trying to stick to a 1000 calorie diet in 6th grade, carrying around my little calorie counter book and marking everything I ate, then crying because I was so hungry.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON MILA

April 15, 2009 Mila | Comments (0) Katrina @ 6:10 am

This applies to the post below this one called “I Can’t Not Share This.”

There are other companies out there selling Salvia hispanica L. at a cheaper price.  From what I’ve read (and Eric and I researched this extensively before ordering), there is a very large span of quality on this seed from really good to really poor quality.  This seed is typically grown in Mexico and there is also a high instance of pesticide usage, which is not good for ingestion.

Another thing that is different about this company is that the seed is sent to you processed into a very digestable form.  Many companies out there are going to ship the Salvia hispanica L. to you in seed form, so you either have to chew on the seeds for a while or process them yourself.  The form in which the Mila is sent to you is very easy to simply mix into a drink or cook into food as is.

I tried THIS seed from THIS company and so I can’t speak to the results you’d have if you tried a different one.  A company that is charging less may be using a lower quality seed or have lower standards in terms of pesticide use or customer service (another question I’ll address here too).   This company I used grows all of their own seed in Guatemala and can vouch for the quality of product that you will receive.

(This is what I suspect happened when I ordered Acai Berries and got absolutely zero results.  I searched until I found the cheapest ones – that swore they worked as well as the expensive ones.)

I just don’t want you guys to be ordering from a different company, getting poor results and think I was yanking your chain.

On the question of customer service, I ordered mine and got it within 1 week’s time.  I chose the $15 3 day shipping and within 24 hours it was shipped out and I had a UPS tracking number.

When you order, there is an option to save $5 on each order by choosing to have it automatically sent to you each month.  You do NOT have to opt for this and if you don’t, they will just send you the one package.

Again, I can’t vouch for the results, service or quality of product you’ll get with other companies.  Mila is the one that worked for me.

Please click here to get to the most current entries for this weight loss journal.  This is an archived entry to describe the benefits that I have personally had from taking Mila.

OK, so as I mentioned before, I’ve been trying this new thing.  I hope that all of you know me well enough by now through this journal and the other one to know a couple of things about me:

1)  I’ve had a struggle with my weight for many years with very little progress

2)  I am determined to lose 100 pounds between Jan and Dec of this year.

3)  I am a straight shooter and call it like I see it.

I’ve found my miracle and I had no idea it even existed and I kid…you…not.

So a couple of months ago, a friend of mine mentioned that she was trying this new thing that was a health food that supposedly cured a bunch of things (ala MonaVie).  I didn’t think much about it, but a couple of weeks ago, I thought to ask her how it was going.  In two months, she’s dropped 2 dress sizes, basically cured her IBS-D, has wonderful energy and is sleeping soundly through the night after years of sleep issues.  There were many other positive changes she mentioned.

I told her I wanted to give it a try, so she had a sample sent to me.  I was so impressed that the first day, I orded a month’s supply.  As tight as money as been, I was worried about how Eric would feel about me spending the money, but he was surprisingly supportive.

So I got this product called Mila seed.  It’s actually Salvia hispanica L. seed.  It has been qualified as an actual food, much like wheat germ is a food.  Dr. Oz has even endorsed this as “the perfect food” and it is in development to be used in third world countries to even end hunger.  I can testify truly that it does, indeed, end hunger.

It has a lot of positive results (I have italicized the health inhformation from their marketing material so you can read it or move on to how it affected ME):

It helps heart health because it has the perfect ratio of Omega-3’s to 1 Omega-6. Omega-3’s are clinically proven to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, stabilize heart arrhythmia, lower blood pressure, act as a natural blood thinner and increase HDL (“good”) cholesterol.

It’s anti aging, fights free radical damage, flushes out age-accelerating toxins, promotes skin elasticity (important in weight loss so you don’t sag), makes your hair, nails and skin healthier, lubricates your joins, reduces muscle soreness and rebuilding and lowers the lactic acid build up in muscles (really great for pregnancy to prevent leg cramps).

It is known to lower blood pressure in the same way blood pressure med do and works equally well for men and women.

It helps perimenopausal symptoms and the abundance of Omega-3’s help support healthy breast tissue and for men, prostate health.

It helps regulate your digestive system and promote good gastorintestinal health.  Testimonies say it has eliminated indigestion and heartburn for people who have used it.

It has 6 times the calcium of milk and promotes good bone health.  It is also a rich source of other essential minerals like phosphorous, magnesium and iron, all of which aid in the absorption and utilization of calcium by the body.

The International Journal of Clinical Practice tells us that much research (including research from Harvard) has linked low levels of Omega-3’s in the body with mood disorders. Omega-3’s are believed to keep the brain’s pattern of thoughts, reactions, and reflexes running cohesively and efficiently. Clinical trials have concluded that Omega-3’s may reduce the risk of various psychiatric disorders and Alzheimer’s disease.

The  dense qualities and Omega 3 content in Mila has been shown to assist in the control of diabetes and regulating blood sugar levels.

It is so safe that it is used to treat both children and pregnant women.

BUT…

it has high nutrition and also a high level of Tryptophan, which is an amino acid that suppresses appetite.

This is not marketed as a weight loss product, but as a good for you food.

I thought, meh, Monavie Wannabe and then I tried it.

I know this sounds very highly marketed, but I told you that to tell you this:

Holy Moses, it works.

I started on Friday morning and this is TUESDAY.  It took everything I had not to start talking to you about this stuff on SATURDAY because I was so impressed the very first day, but I wanted to give it a few days to make sure it was still doing what it did at first.

I have not had a single hot flash or hormonal symptom since I started.

All of my indigestion and heartburn (which had become chronic to the point that I always had Maalox around) is just 100% gone.

I have been sleeping like a rock with strong, but not intrusive, dreams.  I usually wake up 3-4 times a night.  I wake up feeling refreshed whether I slept 8 hours or 5.  – I did not sleep last night or the night before, but that was due to other circumstances.  Believe me, the Mila really, really wanted me to sleep (agh).

My blood pressure has been completely normal.  I don’t feel any sugar rushes or hypoglycemic symptoms, which I would sometimes have before.

I have really, really good energy all day long without feeling speedy.  I feel really vibrant and good and healthy.

My, um, libido, jumped up a good bit (that’s not listed on the propaganda at all).

I am more relaxed and have an overall sense of well being.

The real kicker is that I am never, ever hungry.  Ever.  No comfort eating.  No cravings.  No nothing.  I always feel as though I just ate a big meal and that if I eat any more, I’ll get uncomfortable.  I have to remind myself to eat lunch and dinner or else I’ll just keep going and not feed people, including myself.

I crave water to drink and salads.

Exercise feels really, really good to the point that yesterday, I walked for an hour and a half and was ready to go some more.  Those mountain hills usually KILL me.

I’ve lost 4 pounds.

FOUR POUNDS IN FIVE DAYS!

This is no joke, kids.  I’ve found the keeper.

So it’s this kind of ground seed and you use a scoop about the size of a coffee scoop per day.  You can put it in juice, chocolate milk or lots of other stuff.  My favorite is oatmeal.  They say it’s tasteless and odorless, but I always get a slighty nutty aftertaste (kind of like pecans) with a yard clipping sort of moment, then it’s gone.  I am a tremendously picky eater and would not take this if it tasted bad.  This isn’t bad at all.

I make the lowest size serving of quick oats (1 cup of water to 1/2 c oats) and add a bit of extra water.  When it’s almost done, I stir in the seeds, then put on a bit of sugar and eat it.  Heat does nothing to change the way it works or tastes.  (Warning:  Do not put in ginger ale… that was fairly nasty)

After that, I’m never hungry for the rest of the entire day.  Never.   Even as I go to sleep at night.  It’s a fiber, so you do need to drink water, but it can also be a very, very lightly steeped tea or lemon water.  Just keep the watery stuff flowing.

Delena (My 16-year-old daughter) used it and had the exact “not hungry” result.

I am completely confident that this is what is going to take me to my 100 pound weight loss in 12 months and I’m already 4 months in.  Last night, I went to a school conference and one of the women I know from the school emailed me to today to tell me how wonderful I look.  It’s the seeds’ effect on the skin, I’m telling you.

I was concerned about the price.  It costs $55 plus postage for a one month supply.  A lot of you know that our money situation was terrible, but you know what?  My health situation is on the verge of being terrible if I don’t fix this.  I’m almost 50 and this is going to work.  I figure I would gladly spend $55 a month on a gym if one was local.  I could easily spend $55 on medication co-pays if I had insurance.

I swear to God, for me, this is like gastric bypass in a bag….without the side effects of the surgery.

So for a month’s supply, it’s $55 plus postage.  I’m totally invested in this stuff and when you see me in July at the GH Fan Club Weekend, you’re going to know where the $55 that I took from my grocery budget went each month.

They have really fast shipping and good communication from the company.   The company’s website is here.  You can order the product there and learn more about it.  They are a really new company, but Eric the Skeptic researched them 100% and deemed them to be righteous.  Now he’s all excited about the fast results I’m getting.

I will keep you well posted on my results along the way.

I’m just glad to FINALLY be below 250 after dancing around it for so long!

This stuff is fantastic.

Holy Moses

April 10, 2009 weight loss | Comments (0) Katrina @ 8:31 pm

I am onto something, folks.  I’m trying a new supplement that came to me under the most unusual of circumstances.  I took it for the first time yesterday afternoon and then again at 8am today.  At 9am today, I ate my breakfast:  a small slice of meatloaf, about 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes and a 2″ square of cornbread.  Normally, I would be hungry for at least a snack every 2-3 hours after I eat breakfast.  Today, I realized it was 4pm and I had not yet eaten anything else.  I took a moment to assess how I felt and I felt FULL.  It wasn’t just an absence of cravings.  It’s that feeling you have when you are at a restaurant and you just ate a big meal and you’re trying to decide whether or not you can fit in dessert because you really want to have dessert, but you know good and well you’re not really hungry and in fact, you might be overfull and feel sick if you DO eat dessert.  It’s that feeling, where you are comfortably full, but if you eat one more thing, you’re going to feel over full.  I had lots of energy today and no slag like I would normally feel if I didn’t eat for that long.  I made myself eat dinner, but I wasn’t really hungry and it left me feeling too stuffed.

I see a LOT of soup, fresh fruits and veggies and glasses of milk in my future just to stay well nourished.  I could definitely do a fast if I had this stuff with me.

Don’t worry.  It’s healthy, organic and good for you; not chemical or gimmicky.  Give me  a few more days to continue trying this out and I’ll report in again with full details.  Meanwhile, I might have just found gastric bypass in a bag for all of us.

Stay tuned.

All Is Well

April 8, 2009 weight loss | Comments (0) Katrina @ 10:16 am

It’s well, but not particularly productive.  I have not given up, but I am also still at 251.  I am on the brink of trying something new beginning Friday.  I will be sure and let all of you know.

I do feel good.  Since it is Spring Break, I have been able to get lots of sleep and that has helped tremendously.  I have exercised now and then, but not regularly as I should.  I am eating extremely well with very healthy choices.  I do not have the fresh vegetables I’d like since I have not been to town in a while, but I am going today and will pick some up.  Still no cravings, which is very helpful.  I am eager to start the next chapter of this story and I am still very grateful to weigh 12 pounds less than I did when I started.

My heart is definitely in it and doesn’t stop being in it.  I have not had any times (as I normally do) where I’ve wondered if I “could” do it or if I even wanted to.  There haven’t been any times of, “Dear Lord, why am I even bothering to put myself through this?”  I feel confident and happy.  I just have to get past the part where I’m completely inactive in a day, working on the computer at 2-3 different jobs and not moving around as much as I could.  I am confident that this will also change soon.

EVERYone is home this week.  Kids are off school and Eric is barely working (again), so I’m always in the middle of a crowd.  I do miss my alone time, but it has been a nice week.

And that’s where I am in the process.
